Weathervanes were also a kind of guild sign. The manor house had its lily or coat of arms. The stud farm had its horse. The shipping company had its ship - or maybe you had your monogram - the possibilities were endless and sometimes beautiful. A good weather vane can withstand many storms - because it always points the narrowest side into the wind. That's why it's important to lubricate your weathervane when you have the ladder out. If you don't think it has a certain charm when the weathervane squeaks on the roof.
Depending on the wind direction and time of year, with a little experience you can predict the weather and decide whether you want to sail out to sea or just watch it. It's always been interesting to see which way the wind is blowing, although it can be a little confusing - if it's blowing from the east, it's blowing from the west, if it's blowing from the west, it's blowing from the east, and so on.  When you're at the North Pole, there's always a south wind, and when you're at the South Pole, there's always a north wind. But where does the wind come from when you are at the South Pole and where does it come from when you are at the North Pole? If you have a weathercock, you already know.

Please note that in bad weather there is a risk of damage to the weather vane and roof - so do not put the weather vane on the roof if the house or roof is very exposed.

All weather vanes are handcrafted from brass and copper.

Some weather vanes are shiny, but all will darken over time with exposure to the elements. Others can be purchased in an antique finish, making them look as if they have been on the roof for many years.

Weathercocks come in a variety of sizes and most can be mounted as required. See accessories.

They are made to order and therefore have a lead time of 1-2 weeks.
